WHO AM I, AND WHY DID I WRITE THIS BOOK?
I was born in 1966 and raised by what I would consider great parents. I had a wonderful childhood and realize now that most of who I am and what I know is because of my parents’ and grandparents’ ability to live as examples for me. I hope to pass some of their invaluable lessons on to those who read my book and with whom I connect.
I had a relatively normal childhood within a very normal family in Kansas City. Mom was a stay-at-home mom; Dad worked six days a week and went the first 20 years of his career without a day of vacation, trying to build a sustainable business while raising a family.
I wrote THE 10 KIDMANDMENTS because I knew I would be a better father and husband by focusing my energy on teaching others how to be better parents and spouses. 14 years in the making, I am a better person because of this project. However, that does not mean that I claim to be an ultimate expert, nor have all the answers. In fact, just the opposite is true. I am on a journey like most of you and this is simply part of the process. I am excited to share with you what I have learned.
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO I HAVE TO WRITE A BOOK?
Three girls, one wife to whom I’ve dedicated my life and almost 4,000 people under my work umbrella. What I realized is that running a successful business is very similar to running a successful family. Most of the ideas within my book are practices that I also use in running my organization.
During my years in business I learned leadership skills and the importance of serving, empowering and inspiring others.
Success came early and easy but I realized there was more to life than just having financial success. I had to be significant too. Parenting allows us all the chance to be significant.
We, as parents, are so fortunate to be blessed with children; it is up to us to take advantage of this opportunity. Accept responsibility to make a difference in a child’s life and you will be rewarded beyond measure.
